An excellent vintage handmade wooden horse that could be added to your valuable belongings or decorate a home corner.
Red wooden horses called dala horses have been traditional handicrafts in Nusnäs, Sweden, for centuries. The horses are painted a specific shade of red called Falu red that comes from the mines in the Dalarna region. Carved out of scraps of wood by tradesmen, the Dala Horse embodies a part of Sweden's National heritage and is one of the symbols of Sweden. There is legend that the Dala Horse became the National toy in 1716 after Swedish soldiers fighting under King Charles XII were forced to seek quarters in the homes in the Dalarna region. The horse became the sign of good luck and these carvings were often given as gifts for their hosts for food or payment for room and board.
Dimensions: 15 cm or 5.9'' high, 14 cm or 5.5'' wide.
Condition: This piece is in excellent vintage condition. Great care will be taken in packing to ensure safe arrival.
