The year was 1969, Crosby, Stills & Nash had released their debut album and were ready to begin their first (loosely organized) tour. From their very first shows (in Chicago, August 16th, 1969), Neil Young was already on board. The band's second concert ever would become legendary - The Woodstock Festival, on August 18th. But... what about
after
Woodstock? A week later, the band would play their third date (the first of 5 straight nights) at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre on August 25th, 1969. Which is where
this
original image was taken... during rehearsals for the band's third ever gig together. Neil Young is seen here waiting to take his place alongside David, Graham and Stephen while the boys checked sound and mic levels. (CSN are to Neil's immediate right, out of frame.) Believe it or not... within only a year, in July 1970, this original version of CSNY would break up. This stunning image beautifully captures the beginnings of Neil Young's tenure with one of music's most beloved acts, as they rehearse on stage before the evening's show. This is
not
a "publicity" photo... but, original photographic art that was produced from the original 1969 negative.
