    Facts About Cypress Wood
Cypress trees grow mainly in low wet marshy areas in the southeast USA.  The wood is naturally highly resistant to attack from insects, rot, decay and fungus and can easily last for many years  with little care.  The early pioneers used it for building barns, homes, out buildings, docks, boats, and commercial buildings. Common characteristics of cypress are closed straight grain, lightweight, few knots, dimensionally stable, and resistance to splitting and warping. Cypress wood has no sap, therefore it doesn’t bleed. It takes stain and paint exceptionally well.  Fresh cypress wood ranges in color from light to dark sand.  Aged cypress wood exposed to the weather takes on a light gray color after several months.
Instructions For Placement of Your Bat House
Select a location that will provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily and facing a south to southeast direction.  The bat house should be mounted at least 15 feet above ground level.  It can be mounted on a house, garage, barn, wood pole, metal pipe, tree, etc.  It
    should not
be hung from a rope or chain.  It should be mounted rigidly to maintain it’s orientation to the south or south east direction.  Avoid placement above doors, windows, and walkways.  If a location with 6 hours of sunlight is not available, the house can be painted with nontoxic black paint on the exterior only.
Never paint or stain the interior.
After you have your house installed,
    be patient
.  Bats locate the houses by sight, so if your house is mounted on a tree in dense foliage, it may take longer for the bats to find it.
